Hello there. I just read this story, shared by my Friend Pooh... and would like to share it with you. It is long but very meaningful. I hope you will take time to read it. Enjoy!
There was a newly wedded couple. One day the husband said that he wants to go somewhere far to work hard and earn more so that he can give her a comfortable future. Only one thing he asks from her and that is to be loyal to him even when he is not back for a long time. After quite some days, he got himself hired. He told the boss, he only ask for one term, that is to allow him to
work as long as he wants, and when he decided to go, the boss must let him go and pay him whatever he earn. So the deal was on and the man work for 20 years non stop.
One day, he told the boss, 'I want to go home now'. Boss agrees and said he will do according to their agreement. But, he has a suggestion. He said he has 3 good advices for him, but the man can only choose either the money or the advices. The boss let the man to consider. After 2 days, the man came back and he wanted the advice. The boss double confirms with the man, if he chose advice, he won't get his money. The man still chose the advice. So, the boss listed the following,
1. Never choose a short cut back home. It will endanger you.
2. Never be curious over anything mysteriously bad.
3. Never made assumption or decision when you are in hatred or suffering, because you will regret.
After that, the boss gave him 3 buns. 2 for the man to eat on the road, 1 to eat with his wife when home.
After 20 years, finally he is on the way home for his wife. Second day of the journey, he met a guy. The guy suggested a shorter route for him. The man is very excited as he is tired of the long journey. Then the next second he remembered the boss's advice. Never choose a short cut. So he moved on. Later, he found out that the guy was a con man. The shorter route was a trap.
Later that night, he checked in to a hotel and slept. Midnight, he was awakened by a loud scream. He was curious and got up want to go find out what happened. Then, he remembered his boss's second advice. Never be curious over anything mysteriously bad. So he stopped and got back to sleep. The next morning, the hotel owner asked the man, "did you hear a loud scream last night?" the man "yes" "aren’t u curious?" "No" "you are the 1st person out here alive" the hotel owner explained to him that his son had mental problem, he screamed and attracted curious customer and later killed them and buried them. None live through... So, the man continued his journey.
One evening, he almost reached home. Saw his house on fire and his wife's figure in front of the house. Although it was quite dark, he could see, his wife was not alone. There was a man leaning on her neck. At that moment, he was so furious and crossed and hurt at heart that he felt like immediately run over and kill them. Again, before he could do it, he thought of the 3rd advice. Never made assumption or decision when you are in hatred or suffering, because you will regret. So, he waited till morning. Telling himself that he would return to his boss and work for him after he express to his wife that he had love her and be loyal to her all this while.... He went to the house and knock on the door. The wife recognized him and ran over and hugged him. He felt like pushing her away but he felt heartache.
Then with tears, he said "I've been loyal all these years, but you betrayed me.... "
The wife was shock and replied "what? I've never betrayed you and I've waited for you 20 years."
The man "Then who was the man yesterday evening?"
The wife "That's our son. The time when you left, I was pregnant. He is 20 years old now."
The man went in house and hugged his son. While the wife was cooking lunch, the man was telling his son about all his experience. Then when they all sat down to have meal, they started eating the last bun which the boss asked him to share with his wife. When he pealed open it, a stack of money laid inside. That's his hard earn money for these 20 years..........
Like it? Though this story may seem unrealistic but it has taught me many things about life. Many times, we tend to choose wealth over wisdom. At the end of they day, wealth actually amounts to nothing. It's wisdom that gives us the eternal riches we crave for. Hope you like it as much as I do.
